Hardwood floors can be very beautiful, but they have a major downside. They can very easily get scratched. While there usually is some type of coating to protect the flooring, pushing heavy furniture across the floor can easily create unsightly scratches. Unfortunately, this is not an entirely uncommon situation. But if that happened to you, don’t despair, it doesn’t mean that you will need to spend a lot of money to have the floor fixed. It is possible for you to do the work yourself with some simple tools. Your choice of starting point will depend on the depth of the scratch. If it is a deep scratch, you should start out with a fine sandpaper, but on the other hand, if it isn’t too deep, you might be able to get by with steel wool. Make sure that you sand along with the grain of the wood because that will look much better. After you have evened out the surface, it needs to be cleaned well, after which you use wood filler to make it level. Once the wood filler dries, you need to sand it again for a smooth surface, then clean it off again, after which you finish it off with polyurethane.
