Playing in a playground is a lot of fun, and while children today don’t do this as much as children did in the past, put them in the middle of a playground and they will quickly figure out what to do.

If you are thinking of building a playground in your own backyard, you should keep safety in mind. There are some very specific guidelines that you can follow to minimize the risk for injury in a playground.

Anything that has a pivot point could also become a pinching point. Having these points under a cover to prevent crushing fingers and toes will improve safety.

Swings can slam together if they are installed too closely to each other. Keeping at least two feet between the swings and two and a half feet between the swings and the poles you will minimize the risk of this happening.

Having a soft surface on the playground also helps making it less likely for a fall to cause injury.
